Sparkle sparkling Crémant de Loire !

August 16, 2012

Crémant de Loire

When visiting in Germany lots of reunions with family and friends await us, usually accompanied by some sort of joyous celebration; and summer is as good as it gets if it comes to sparkling wine.

Crémant de Loire

The other day in Bottrop we had a ‘Crémant de Loire Marquis de Beaucel Brut’ which is available at the discounter Aldi. In fact some good wines are carried by this food chain. For less than 6 EURO you can have a bottle of Crémant de Loire, which makes a refreshing and reinvigorating drink.

The wine is made from Chenin Blanc grapes sourced from the Loire Valley in France. This valley is hiding many great discoveries as regards wine. My last visit was when I was still a student and toured France with my friend Ulrich. I guess I should go again and explore this wonderful part of France.

Here in Thailand Chenin Blanc is also produced as one of the white varieties which grow well in the tropical climate.

Last day of 2011 with bubbly near our dam

Two Hills

The last day of 2011 was rather hot (32 Celsius). The best place to be during hot weather is our dam. So we prepared some food and drink for a pick nick at Brownies Landing, that is how we called our jetty from which we jump into the water.

I threw a few lamb chops on to my barbecue, the girls prepared some dips, salads, cheese and other stuff and we were set for an afternoon at our dam. The water was cold and refreshing, and we stayed until sunset.

I had picked up a few bottles of bubbly for New Years evening. The dry sparkling of Yarra Burns is a fine bubbled wine made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which was very lovely.

Bring on 2012. We are ready for it.

First Christmas pick-nick at Two Hills

December 23, 2011

Dramatic clouds over the land

It was a glorious day on the farm in Glenburn. Just the right day for a first pick-nick near our second dam (the one we use to irrigate the vines).

We had bought some inexpensive bubbly (below 7 A$), a ‘Sacred Hill Sparkling Brut’ (non vintage) by De Bortoli, from the Riverina in New South Wales.

Christmas makes me wozie

It was the perfect drink for a hot summers pick-nick, just days before Christmas. I liked the crisp acidity and the strawberry nose.

We thought that a bottle of ‘Sacred Hill’ would just be the right stuff to be drunk at Two Hills Vineyard.

Another day in paradise came to a marvelous end.

Merry Christmas 2009

December 25, 2009

Hi folks, it’s Christmas again and I wish all of you the best of all festive seasons. Cheers

Christmas time is “sparkling time” it seems. We bought a whole collection, some in prices reduced. At the moment we drink a lot of Taltarni, Australia and Prosecco by Cascine, Italy, both wonderful for any occasion, and moderately prced even by Thai standards. We are drinking lashings of it. Enjoy
